Westlake Village is located in Winnebago Illinois but residents of Westlake are within the Pecatonica School District. Pecatonica has a great educational program and they recently built a new high school to accomidate all the new students. Pecatonica is a small town and with small towns come rivalrys. There was a long-standing rivalry between the high school sports teams of Winnebago and Pecatonica. However, in the 1990's as the Winnebago school district increased and Pecatonica lost its football team due to lack of interest they were no longer in the same competitive division.
For a period of time in the 1990s Pecatonica and Winnebago teams co-ops for a few sports. The Winnebago cross country team competed with members of Pecatonica High School for several years, again until Winnebago ultimately would have had to change divisions completely, as the combined enrollments of both high schools were used for determining division placement. Baseball and track and field co-op relationships with Durand High School were also created. In the case of track and field, the uniforms were a combination of colors of the two high schools but practices were held in Pecatonica. Pecatonica School district has grown a lot over the past few years and there is no longer a need for any co-ops. Competition is back on between all the neighboring small towns.
