Buying a Home

The fundamental question most prospective home buyers ask themselves is “should we build or buy an existing home? It’s a tough decision, but you can arrive at an informed decision that will provide you with the best home for you and your family.

Existing Homes: Pros and Cons

Many older homes certainly have an abundance of character. Unfortunately, it’s simply not cost effective to build houses today the way we did 50 years ago. Nor is it ecologically desirable in most cases.

The downside of existing homes is that you’ll probably never find one that meets your exact specifications. Odds are that you’ll need to redecorate and even remodel, not to mention make repairs to the mechanicals and on structure as well. Also, finding the right home in the right location can be extremely difficult. If you’re both patient and persistent, you may be able to find a home in a desirable neighborhood that meets your criteria. If you’re not, then building may be a better fit for your needs.

Building The Home That is Right For You

When you build a new home, you're looking for the right home, in the right neighborhood, at the right price. New subdivisions feature amenities that you often won’t find in existing neighborhoods: newer schools, safer streets, larger yards, bike and jogging trails, and nature preserves. In a new house, you can pick your own color schemes, flooring, kitchen cabinets, appliances, custom wiring for TV's, computers, phones and speakers, etc., as well as have more upgrade options. Modern features like media rooms, extra-large closets and extra-large bathrooms and tubs are also more attainable in ground-up construction.

Generally, new homes are safer and more efficient than older homes. New-home designers can use new building materials such as glazed Energy Star windows, thicker insulation and other technology that will lower future energy costs for the owner. Kitchens and laundry areas in new homes are also designed to house more efficient energy-saving appliances.

The downsides to the flexibility of new construction are all of the decisions and planning that go into the development process. Contry makes that process easier for new homeowners. We build over 400 houses per year, so we’re experts at managing new home construction projects and meeting your expectations. Also, with our new Design Center, you can make all of your design, floor covering, fixture, and decorating decisions in one convenient location.
